Living Without's Favorite Books: Re-Wiring Hope

Autism, ADHD, Tourette’s, Asperger’s, dyslexia all stem from brain imbalance, a condition where the brain’s hemispheres aren’t synchronized or electrically balanced, says Robert Melillo, author of Disconnected Kids (Perigee/Penguin Books). In his groundbreaking, comprehensive approach for treating children with Autistic Spectrum Disorders, the well-known chiropractic neurologist and researcher helps parents assess their child’s unique combination of problems, targeting deficiencies in physical, sensory, nutritional and academic aspects of development. Then he outlines an overall treatment program—drug free—to address them. The “under-developed” side of the brain can be re-wired and re-balanced, Melillo contends, resulting in the reduction or elimination of symptoms. Not every child is responsive but many are, he says. Recommended reading for any parent who has a child with ASD.
