Living Without's Favorite Books: Dine like a Caveman

Diane Sanfilippo, a certified nutrition consultant specializing in gastrointestinal and blood sugar issues, has penned an important book on the Paleolithic diet. Practical Paleo: A Customized Approach to Health and a Whole Foods Lifestyle (Victory Belt) gives the why’s and how-to’s of consuming only real foods—those available before the dawn of agriculture, meaning no grains, legumes, pasteurized dairy, etc. In addition to nutritional arguments for the diet, Practical Paleo provides steps for putting it into action, 30-day meal plans tailored to benefit specific health conditions (example: autoimmune) and 120-plus easy recipes that range from entrees to desserts. There are notes on food allergies, including nightshade sensitivity, and even guidance on what to do if the standard Paleo diet isn’t a match for your medical concerns. A great book for Paleo newbies and anyone interested in back-to-basics eating for better health.
