We Have Dumplings!
I’m basking in the afterglow of the Natural Products Expo West, the huge food show the Living Without team attended several days ago. This year, the Expo, held for three days in Anaheim, California, was bigger and busier than ever. With over 3,500 exhibits—an impressive number of them hawking gluten-free products—it was amazing and a bit overwhelming.
The highlights? I interviewed celiac Elisabeth Hasselbeck of The View, who let it slip that she’s working on a cookbook of old family-favorite recipes she’s converting to gluten free. The book is due out, she hopes, around the holidays. (More on Elisabeth later.) I also chatted with TV personality Montel Williams, who’s successfully managing his multiple sclerosis with a special diet that includes avoiding gluten, among other things. (More on Montel later, too.)
The big highlight was, of course, the food. Unashamed, I sampled my way from one end of the enormous hall to the other. Food editor Beth Hillson joined me. Together, we found lots of exciting products we’ll be describing in the magazine (Check out the “Try It” section of the magazine) and future blogs.
Of note were Asian dumplings introduced by Feel Good Foods. Really delicious. The company's founders, celiac Vanessa Phillips and her chef/husband Tryg Siverson, were busy cooking and offering samples to a hungry public. In the midst of all that, Vanessa took a minute to talk to me about her dumplings. Click on the video to see the interview.
But life is more than dumplings. Here’s are a quick list of a few of the other wonderful gluten-free products that caught our eye at Expo West. Many of these are also dairy free.
