Play [Gluten-Free] Ball!

When I was growing up in Milwaukee, the Braves were playing legendary baseball in County Stadium (this is before the team moved to Atlanta), with sports greats like Eddie Mathews and Hank Aaron whacking them out of the park. I have warm recollections of attending games with my father. He was expansive on these outings, treating my siblings and me to anything and everything we wanted to eat. Hotdogs, hamburgers and bratwursts in buns were an integral part of the outing. These foods and others (ice cream sandwiches, remember them?) made baseball much more than just a game to us kids. It was a glorious summer adventure with its own unique sights, sounds, smells and tastes.

These memories flooded back big-time when I read the recent announcement that Aramark, a Philadelphia-based company that provides food services and facility management to 12 baseball teams, was rolling out gluten-free menus at many of its major league ballparks. Talk about hitting a home run!

Find out if there’s gluten-free fare offered at your city’s ballpark by calling and asking about gluten-free options. Or check out Aramark’s press release at
