Egg Allergic? Here's a Safe Way to Color Easter Eggs

They say necessity is the mother of invention. This is certainly true when it comes to food allergies and sensitivities. The creativity and inventiveness of the celiac and food-allergy community is noteworthy and, frankly, marvelous.

Our special projects editor Laurel Greene is in charge of our new product reviews. When it comes to new items on the market, she’s usually the first staffer on the scene, so to speak. She’s the perfect person for the job—she thrills at the innovative ways that people tackle and solve the challenges related to their special dietary needs.

Laurel was particularly intrigued by a recent letter written by a woman who has developed a ceramic egg that can be dyed just like the real thing. The inventor, a devoted aunt, created the eggs (called Egg Nots) so that her egg-allergic young niece could experience coloring Easter eggs with her little sister and friends. The ceramic eggs, free of the top 8 allergens, are sold for $15.95 a dozen on eggnots.com.

A great idea. Makes us marvel … and wonder—What creative idea has helped you or a loved one live a fuller, richer life with food allergies and sensitivities? Please share with us!
